kbates1208 asked:

My husband’s Grandpa died a few years ago. Immediately after, my husband’s uncle R convinced Grandma (R’s mom) to sign over her house, land, and vehicle to him. So everything would be “taken care of” if something “happened” to her. She was grieving at the time, & didn’t realize he was taking advantage. She regrets that now. Lately, she’s had lots of health problems. Uncle R called family members to say he’s “washing his hands” of her. HIS OWN MOTHER! He’s never helped her out to begin with. Its always been my mom in law, my hubby, and his siblings. The uncle won’t take her to the doctor/hospital, he stays drunk/high all the time. He told her that he was keeping all her possesions away from the other family. G’ma wants to revoke signing over everything to him, and we want to help. Recently her kidneys failed, & Uncle R threatened to put her in a mental institution or nursing home so he wouldn’t have to “put up” with her! This is wrong on so many levels. What do we do now?

Elder Law Services

Both of us do not have any good guidance from any experienced elders regarding anything in life. So far we have not saved a penny for our retirement. Experienced people please guide me on the follwing: 1) If we do not save will the governments of these two places help us in futureafter retirement? 2) Is setting up a parallel income recommemded? 3) What the conditions of old people who have not saved all thier life (will they be provided medical help)? 4) Is it prudent to save monthly, yearly? 5) Do children take care of poor parents? (My husband is currently well off. And we give the best to our parents and children. Will we too be taken care of similarly)? 6) Many parents who are financilally dependent on their children in their later years are insecure and encourage disharmony in thier children’s married life.

googabee asked:

Long story short - my 91 year old neighbor fell down and was taken away by ambulance late last May. Tried for months to locate without success. 2 months later the landlord calls and asks if I can help get neighbor’s abandoned cat out of his apartment. I tried to find a shelter that would take the cat, no luck.

The abandoned cat has been with me for about 5 months now. I’m caring for it but cannot keep it long term.

Over the weekend my landlord (who speaks very poor english) informs me that he’s been in contact with my former neighbor’s lawyer. I called her today, left a message and haven’t heard back yet.

The question is - will whomever is overseeing my neighbor’s affairs be responsible for placing/caring for this cat? Is it likely they’ll cover veterinary costs I’ve had to pay?

My neighbor had no relatives or close friends that I’m aware of. He’s now apparently in a nursing home. He has memory problems, possibly alzheimers or just regular old senility, but I’m sure he’d want his cat to be well looked after.

I feel I’ve been unfairly burdened by having to take the cat in. Only other options would have been putting it out on the street or having it put down.

As an aside - I love animals and until last year have always had at least 1 cat. After spending thousands on my last kitty, who had numerous special needs, I had to finally have her put down on december 1, last year.

After that, I decided I was done with kitties. 9 months later I get stuck with this one. I don’t want to pay bills for another cat, and as a renter who likes to keep open the possibility of a move, having a pet greatly decreases housing options for me.

What’s the likelihood that my neighbor’s atty/other representative will be able to help me out with this? I checked his lawyer’s website and she apparently specializes in wills/trusts/probate/ssd and is a member of the ‘north american equine law practitioners group.’ I’m hoping that means she cares about animals!

Thanks for any insights. It’s a nice cat and I want to see it finds a good home, but I’m planning a possible move next spring. I just feel I kinda got screwed here. It ain’t fair.

Elder Law Services

dylansmommy.2004 asked:

Ok. So me and my husband have been living with my MIL for a little over 2 years now with our 4 year old son. and recently I had a baby girl who is now 4 months old. Ok so This woman is crazy… She tries to tell me how to raise my son.. If I try to punish him for not lisitining she flips out. and what makes it worse is that on a few occations she said that she should be his mother!!! Now I was always taught by my mother to respect your elders. Which I do I have never said anything disrespectful to her. (good thing she can’t read my mind) But I am really getting to the point where I am about to leave my husband because of her. She Drinks every night. Smokes pot. Doesn’t listin to me or my husband when we say our son can’t have something or do something. She thinks she is gods gift and is perfect. She smoked Pot all her life and even smoked pot and done worse drugs with her son when he was just 15!!! She thinks she knows everything and I know nothing. I want to get out of here but right now have no money and no place to go. I don’t know what to do. I am really gonna end up going crazy. I was already in a hospital once before because of her and her s**t. She plays mind games with you. She is 2-faced she’ll be your best friend in front of you then be talking s**t and soon as you walk away. She tried to get my son to call her mom. When he was about 2 and was just learning to say grandma he couldn’t say it and so he called her “ma” and she Loved it!!!! I think because she screwed up her sons lives and was a bad mother she is trying to take my son and make him hers. She doesn’t even ask me if she can take him somewhere anymore she just says ” ohI’m taking him to here or there” I can’t stand it. And my husband who I love so so much thinks I just have to deal with it. I can’t do it anymore I told him I would rather live in a 2 bedroom basement apartment then live here. There is so much more to this but It would take me a year to write all she has done to me and MY family. Well I would really like it if someone had advice for me anything would help..
Thank You.
I forgot to add that it is her house we are living in. we live upstairs in the 3 br house and she lives in the 2br apt downstairs.
Ok everyone is telling me to leave. Where am I supposed to go with 2 kids (which one is an infant). and no money. At times I would Love to pack up my s**t and leave but then reality sets in and I know I can’t live on the streets with 2 kids.

Elder Law Services
